Did you check out stickey (see link below) for more insight?  I’d go for the Highlander if you need the space, otherwise the RAV4.  With the Acura MDX/Honda Pilot SUVs I would avoid them because the MY 2016+ Pilot had the 3.5L V6 (J35Y6) and the MY 2014-2020 MDX had the 3.5L V6 (J35Y5) both of which have cylinder deactivation.  It can wear out/damage your engine over time (and also consume oil).  It’s an extra complexity/repair costs you don’t need to deal with as the vehicle ages.  Also these are direct injection only engines, so you will be dealing with carbon buildup over time - another maintenance item to worry about.  The Toyota’s have none of that!  (It has port injection in addition to direct injection so cleans the back of the valves.)

Skip MDX, … it’s essentially a Pilot with lots of high-price lipstick and mascara smudged onto it. If you like Honda and luxury, … just get a top line Pilot, instead. You will pay less for Pilot.

Above said, … Highlander may just be a ticket. I would look at that one, for sure.

Best, though, … test drive this trio, … and pick the one you like to be seen in best!

Thanks much Sir...

No trouble at all, … if you are looking at new, I would particularly concentrate on Highlander. Honda was very, very good a while ago (I own two of them, both 2010), but lately, … I’m not so sure that they are as good as before. Just an observation, … Toyota, on the other hand, appears, … and I stress: … appears, to be holding on to its reputation of goodness! Dunno for sure.

All great choices.

If money wasn’t a factor, I’d get the latest MDX. It’s one fine looking vehicle.

But money is a factor, so the Highlander and Pilot are excellent choices.

I’ve got some experience with the second generation Pilot, and I must say, it impressed me in size, comfort, and driving experience. I presume the quality and impression is still there for the 3rd generation Pilot.

I'd go Highlander for reliability, and get a higher trim for a more premium experience.

I would pass on the MDX as they tend to have more issues and cost so much money.

The Pilot is a good SUV but not as reliable as the Highlander

The 3rd row seat on the highlander is not made for adults.  Only kids could fit in there.  Pilot is a bit bigger in the 3rd row.  So if you are looking to use 3rd row seat, you should definitely get honda pilot.  I know you are not considering Sequoia which is bigger than Pilot but also very reliable SUV with comfortable 3rd row.
