Hey Scotty and team,
Love what you guys do. Just found out about scotty 2 weeks ago and he's already saved me over $100! Anyway, my question is regarding the transmission cooler that came with the tow package of my 2018 Tacoma (TRD PRO). I've read people replacing them with the tru cool 4454 to get better temps while towing/ off road. Would you recommend doing so? I plan on towing a 2600 pound (dry weight) travel trailer cross country during summer months.
I have 40000 miles on it. Automatic Transmission.
What's the rating for the tow package?
If it is less than what you plan to tow, it is perfectly fine and you do not need to worry about it.
Since heat is what kills automatic transmissions, I would get the biggest cooler that would fit.
Stick to what came with the truck. It’s sufficient, you already paid for it, …
Now, … if you do decide to replace it with an aftermarket, make sure that it includes thermostat and a bypass. Tundra transmissions don’t like to run cold, … as much as they don’t like to run hot. fwiw.
