That does seem a lot to me.

Wow, I'd do it for half that, including parts and coolant.

I replaced mine and it only cost $40 for the thermostat. That shop charged you way too much for that service.

Sounds like a ripoff to me unless the engine has to come out to get at the thermostat. Heck, on most vehicles I'd do a job like that for the cost of the parts and a six-pack.

Oh, you better up that before everyone starts calling.

Actually for friends and family I've done that kind of thing for less!

what's your phone number Chuck? 😛

Vehicle designs differ. For my 2008 Camry, it was ridiculously easy to replace the thermostat. (Remove two 10mm bolts, pull out the coupling, the the thermostat, replace the thermostat, put the coupling back on, and rebolt).

A drain-and-fill with OEM coolant and a new OEM thermostat, DIY, cost me roughly $65 (with the cost of a speciality funnel for bleeding out the air from the system).

The best way for you to determine degree of difficulty is to watch a mechanic do this on a 2014 Silverado. Then make the judgment, yourself:

Try calling another shop and asking for a quote.
