Hello Scotty and for a members I have a question that I need to have answered. I am looking to get rid of my 2016 Dodge journey and the wife and I are looking at a 2017 or newer Ford Explorer and I would like to have your thoughts on that vehicle?
How many years and miles do you need it to last you?
Well the Dodge Journey has lasted not even three years, meanwhile my 05 Chevy Colorado has nearly 180,000 miles and has been more reliable. We want it to last as long as it can and i keep my vehicles maintained. As long as it gets my kids to school and wife to work and no major problems on out of state travel on vacations we are happy. Toyota is a bit out of my price range but worth trying for if the Ford doesn't pan out.
Not a good choice. The quality ofFord is going downhill. Pick a Toyota or Honda product instead.
Watch Ford Boss me on YouTube. That guy is a 20 yr Ford tech. He’s got a few videos on those explorers and the eco boost motors.
It’s not a good situation with those vehicles.
@fred1977 keep in mind as well Fords focus is their trucks. The SUVs and the smaller Crossovers are just a side gig for them. I will say I believe Ford is leading the way in trying to keep up with the government and EPA which is a nightmare. I mean the American people in general really only care about safety, more gadgets and how the vehicle looks while also wanting fuel savings and more power? The definition of reliability has changed, it’s now all about safety rather than longevity. I just wish with all the new tech and different things they’re doing to these motors they would actually do some longer term research and better QC before dumping them in their trucks. Also they seem to have given up on customer service completely and it’s a matter of time before that’s going to get to them.
Not a great choice. I would look elsewhere.
- We have passed on a Ford Explorer and we booking at Toyota Highlander this Thursday. Thank you to the members who replied to my question.
Thank you to all the fellow members on this page for leading me in a good direction. We have decided to forgo getting an Explorer and are going to test drive Toyota Highlander's tomorrow. We did our research and realise that Toyota is the highest quality manufacturer on the market today.
Good for you. It’s always important to do one’s research and confirm what others are saying. Hope it all goes smoothly.
I think it will go well, as part of my research we watched Scotty's video on the Highlander and we were sold.
Scotty, my wife and I are tired of the endless money pit hunk of junk Dodge Journey and are looking at our options. We found a one owner 2013 Ford Explorer Limited at our local Ford Dealer. We would appreciate your opinion on this year, make and model of vehicle overall but especially in reliability. It has an odometer reading of approximately 17,000 miles and is being listed at $16,900. Would you recommend us looking further into this or stay clear and recommend us look into something more like a Toyota Highlander. We have a family of 4.
Avoid those as well: both Ecoboost and naturally aspirated V6 engines. Look at the Toyota Highlander instead.
