Hey there Scotty just wanted to tell you that thanks for your channel it a very helpful channel. On the other hand I want to ask you if my car has timing belt or timing chain? 2008 dodge 3.5l avenger r/t
That 3.5L engine (EGF) has a timing belt, NOT a timing chain.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_SOHC_V6_engine#3.5
that's what my research says too
https://www.techshopmag.com/problems-that-plague-chrysler-s-3-5l-engine-create-rebuild-opportunities/
I have a 2010 Dodge Avenger R/T and it has a timing belt and is an interference engine. At 120,000 miles I changed the belt, water pump and all tensioners for peace of mind. Funny the old belt looked fine with no wear or cracks, but now it is all done.
and it is a 3.5 L.
Okay because when I look up for the part it doesn't give me option for timing chain just for timing belt. So I wasn't sure
Doc that link shows a belt which contradicts your 1st answer.
I know. Every place I research has a different story. Without removing the timing cover to look, I think the best way to find out would be to call the VIN into a dealer and have them look it up. It's weird. At this point I am leaning toward an accessory belt and a toothed timing belt.
You're right. Calling the dealership service dept should have been the 1st course of action.
Thanks for the heads up, @mmj.
just out of curiosity @jccas, did you flag this answer as "solved"? (the green checkmark next to it)
