To shift or not to shift

Hey Scotty, big fan! Recently bought a 2013 Lincoln MKZ with the 3.7, 100k mostly highway. Aside from swollen lug nuts issue, absolutely love the car. Transmission can be switched to manual shifting in 'S' mode. Not sure if S stands for Sport or Standard. Transmission will shift on it's own when a certain rpm is reached. Question is, will this cause problems if driven in S and not shifting myself. I prefer the S mode and no shiftingbut don't want to cause any damage to tranny. Thanks

S is probably for ‘Sports’ mode. You’ll have to check your owner’s manual, for the exact nomenclature.

You can leave the shifter in S & not worry about causing any damage to your transmission. Ofcourse, the side effect is going to be worse gas mileage if you’re mostly driving on the highway.

Yep, if the S mode isn’t pulling your engine until red-line or very high rpm to shift - then it should be alright.

Probably will wear it out like 10%-15% faster but just change the fluid frequently and it’ll be alright.
