I have a 2006 Avalon with 200k. I have seen videos where a person changes the filter on a fuel pump assembly. Is this safe?

The fuel filter on the Avalon is not on the fuel pump. It is outside the tank. The fuel pump, which is inside the tank has a pick screen on it.
My 2006 has no in-line filter. It is part of fuel pump assembly. Access is under the rear drivers side seat. Please advise.

That is odd. Every '06 Avalon I've looked at has a separate filter. If the only one you have is attached to the fuel pump, then you'll have to get into the gas tank to clean or replace it.
