Hi Scotty,
I am helping my friend in Germany to buy the right car for him and his 2 small children.
He doesn't want an SUV and prefers a stationwagon.
I told him to look for a Toyota Avensis (kind of a Corolla stationwagon in Europe).
What do you think about a 2003 Toyota Avensis, manual transmission, gasoline, with 215k km (=135k miles) for 2,500 EUR (=3,000 USD)?
He is also buying a Bluedriver and off course will roadtest the car.
Are there any bad things about the Toyota Avensis from the generation 2003 to 2009?
Is one of the following engines better or worse than the others?
- 1.6 L 3ZZ-FE I4 (petrol)
- 1.8 L 1ZZ-FE I4 (petrol)
- 2.0 L 1AZ-FSE I4 (petrol)
- 2.4 L 2AZ-FSE I4 (petrol)
Thanks for your help.
You are the best 🙂
Stan
No matter what car you buy, get it checked out by a reputed mechanic in your area, before you buy it.
Personally, I’d pick the 1.8L engine out of all those. They are evergreen.
Yep, location means something about the quailty of the car too! i.e. where/who built it! I'd stay away from the direct injection fse engines too.
Hello!
Firstly, I'd rather look at last year of a generation than at first because those are the most perfected ones.
I would pick 2.0 1AZ-FSE engine. It is known to me other three are oil-thirsty.
Until 2007, AZ engines have issues with worn out threads in cylinder blocks.
Good luck!
