Hey Scotty my Names Dre and I’m from Australia.

Just wondering what’s your opinion on the Toyota Landcruiser I particularly the 80 series and 105 series Diesels if you’ve ever come across them.

Here in Australia they are know for reliability especially the 1hz motor. This motor is a naturally aspirated straight 6 cylinder engine. These engine have been recorded going over 1 million km’s. The biggest issue most people find with them is there absolutely gutless and lack power. So in your professional opinion should I turbo charge to increase the power but reduce reliability or is it okay to be in the slow lane for the rest of my life.

cheers Scotty love your content and hope to see more videos on the Mighty Toyota Landcruiser (hopefully the 1hz, 1hdt and 1hdt-ft)

Well sure, if you don't mind spending that kind of money, the turbocharge it go right ahead. Just realized it's not that simple. A lot of modifications and computer software stuff has to be changed too

If your in Australia, there are plenty of experts on turbocharging the 1HZ. General consencus is that you need to have the fuel injector pump tune correctly and install quality EGT gauge and water temp gauge. If I were in Australia, I would fit something like engine guard too for extra protection in case you lose all coolant.

  1. It also be wise to do the big end bearings since u need to remove the oil sump anyway (for the turbo oil line)as they are well known to have issues in the 1HZ (when turbocharged) and early 1HDT models. Intercooler is not mandatory if you keep the boost low and fuel in check however it is an option. It also be wise to check the condition of the intake manifold gasket and replace if necessary and also check and adjust valve clearances. It also be wise to refresh your cooling system, flush and replace coolant with 50/50 toyota red and distilled water, oem 76c thermostat, oem radiator cap, oem waterpump, replace coolant hoses and check your fan clutch too (very important) and take it out and replace the silicone oil if not working properly.

If you want to turbo, do it right once rather than twice because these indirect injection engine are more prone to cracking the head and overheating problems if dlne incorrectly.

I too have an 80 series 1HZ but I keep it stock for now since I don't live in Australia and most people here does not how to do it correctly. Plus I want reliability.
