Hello all,
Does anyone have a Toyota/Lexus mechanic they recommend in the Monterey region of California? Note this is not Monterey Park, Ca. My region is just south of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties.
I am currently having some difficulty with my 1988 Toyota pickup truck, 22R engine, carburetor, 4 speed. It currently has 163K worth of mileage.
It's currently suffering from some backfire and large fluctuations in engine temperature. The backfire isn't a major problem, but I do hear it every time I start the engine and warm it up. I still drive it around town so it is operable and I can drive it a fair distance if needed. It's running too cold at the moment.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to get rid of this truck as I have had it for almost 20 years and it's still a great work truck (with good gas milage to boot). Thanks in advance

Otherwise, is there family, friends, coworkers nearby that can recommend a mechanic? Other suggestions are to visit your local auto parts store and see if they have recommendations since they most likely interact with different mechanics. Avoid any of the chain establishments (Pep Boys, etc.)
I don’t have experience with them myself. Just heard about these guys from a friend of a friend of a friend. If you do go, please let us know how it went.
