Hello i got a 2008 cobalt lt 2.2 engine , with 237 000 km on it , when i drive a loud rattling sound comes from the steering wheel area and also the steering wheel shakes like crazy , i got my alignment done 5 months also the strut mount assembly , inner tire rod ends , and sway bar links ago perhaps could be a balance issue ? , what are your thoughts is the car toast ?
Does the rattling/shaking happen at all speeds, or only at certain speeds? If it's only a certain speeds, then it might be tire balancing. More likely, you need to have somebody go over all those parts you've replaced and/or had adjusted. It might be a good idea to have it checked out by a different mechanic. Some of those adjustments and other work may not have been well-done. Another thing to check is the engine mounts and suspension bushings - they usually have rubber in their construction, which can deteriorate in ~14 years. But do have it checked out - steering is pretty freaking critical to your safety.
The rattling happens at all speeds , i know i got a CV joint done 2 years ago could that be getting bad ? , and when i come to a stop it shakes like crazy to but i think that is warped rotors , thanks for the kind reply .. ahh i wish i had money to buy a new one but this is all i have .
Well i got it checked and it was a rack and pinion , my front rotors/pads were bad , and my right front caliper needed to be replaced to , i just ordered the rack and pinion 349$ which is crazy but needs to be done ., hope this fixes the problem , also replacing the sway bar links and bushings , might need a strut on the front right side its getting bad but probably will buy the 2 , but the noise when i first posted this question was really really loud ! like a clicking noise everytime you moved the steerign wheel more so when trying to turn to the right (at a parking position moving wheel to the right to get out of front yard took alot of strength to get it to move nothing when steering to the left !" but hope this fixes it all its going to cost me close to 1100$ when all said and done . and the rust up here is terrible i live in Nova Scotia just got my rockers done last year and already starting to rust , i recently got in a major motorcycle accident where they didnt think i was going to make it broke alot of bones so money is tight bike was rode off and didnt have full coverage so thinking 3000$ motorcycle is now trash hurts and now all these repairs makes it worst . anyways end of rant thanks for the help Glen
