Are the motors in the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe interference engines? Thanks. I'm looking at a Vibe with 129,000 miles.

For the 2.4 that is optional in some years, avoid it entirely they are not that good of an engine they were designed wrong and burn oil.
Traditionally the Toyota 1.8 liter was non interference. However, the Matrix and Vibe have variable valve timing which could end up making it interference. The good news is that even if it is interference the Matrix and Vibe have a timing chain so you don't have to worry about a timing belt braking.
