Hey Scotty! How much should i be paying for old Toyota pickups? I know they're highly coveted and getting rarer to find in decent condition. I only have one day off a week and most private shops are closed. I found an '89 with 200,000 miles on it. Manual 4 speed, 4 cylinder with a clean body, no rust and immaculate interior. Guy said he had the head gasket and timing belt changed but no reciepts. He's asking $4200 but i was going to offer $1000 or so less. Should i go for it? Thanks!
They are getting pretty expensive lately, but unless you can find a good mechanic to check it first, I'd say walk away. The guy has no proof it was actually repaired, and if it was, there's no guarantee it was done correctly and you might end up with the same problem again.
@udyr
That's what i was thinking. Im going to bring cash and see if i can get a deal. If not, ill just keep looking.
Yeah, that's really risky with no proof/evidence. If you can get it for a lot cheaper it might be worth the gamble. Try to use that to your advantage and negotiate down to maybe 2k?
@rpmartin32
Thanks! I don't mind putting money into it after if i could pick it up for cheap.
I own a 1981 Toyota 4x4 long bed pickup I bought when it was ten years old. I have been driving it for 30 years now. It has a carbureted, 22R engine. Even though you can measure its 0-60 mph times with a sun dial, it has never let me down. I change the oil, filter and PCV valve every two thousand miles, and aside from the regular stuff ( alternator, water pump, starter, etc.) it has been great. I get offers on it all the time. Even if you could find one in poor condition at a low price, it would be worth it in the long run to put some good money into it to fix up. The prices are only going up.
@doc
That's what I've been thinking. I know how bulletproof old Toyotas were compared to ones now. I could even get the engine rebuilt cheaper than i could get a newer Tacoma wothout all the electronic crap they have now. 😂
a 31 year old non classic vehicle for $4200!! Way over priced for what it is. Offer $2000 and go from there. EVERYTHING is negotiable.
@porkchophill
That's what i was saying! 😂 though I'd still rather have an old Toyota than anything classic to be honest.
