Toyota V6 Engine Just Quits

Topic starter

2020 Toyota Sienna, 9,000 miles, auto - after stopping at red light accelerate normally and engine just quits.  No dash lights and no codes.  Starts right back up.  Has happened 2 times.  Toyota has issued recall for prior years (ending in 2019) for bad fuel pumps (Denso) but not 2020.  Van is under warranty but dealership cannot find problem after two weeks. Without pulling the pump is Toyota able to determine which pump is in this vehicle?

Yes.  Attach a gauge and check the output pressure of the fuel pump.  If it's not up to specifications, it needs to be replaced under warranty.

Thanks Doc for your reply. Unfortunately, problem seems to be very intermittent - has only happened 2 times, always when pulling away from a stop and with partial throttle. Dealer 'stress tested' fuel pump and declared it OK but failure has not happened at high (highway) speed - only very low speed.

I believe this is an electronic throttle control car.  Check the plug in at the accelerator pedal for loose connection and corrosion on the terminals and clean if necessary.  May have to replace the controller on the pedal.
