Hello Scotty.

Is this engine reliable like the other engines made by Toyota?  Can they reach 500k mileage also? This are used on the TOYOTA VIOS sold here in Philippines.

These are compact sedans in competition with the Honda City, Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent and the Nissan Almera.

Hi. I can help. Yes the Toyota VVTI engines are EXCELLENT engines. I've seen people make massive amounts of horsepower from those engines and they were part of a line of engines that came in the 1st generation Toyota Supra where people could easily make 1000HP from the stock engine(which is INSANE power more than most engines can make with serious aftermarket modification). So to summarize yes these are great engines

BUT before you buy a car like this BE SURE to have a qualified mechanic check it out first to make sure it's been maintained properly. If they check it and say it's okay then yes you can EASILY get 500k but realize one thing... These VIOS engines are SMALL engines. They range from 1.3liter to 1.5l engines that don't produce a lot of power so if you take care of your cars and put in quality fluids they can last a long time as long as you don't beat on them and have them well maintained.

With that said getting a car to go 500k miles will mean that you will at some point need to do fairly serious maintenance on certain parts of the car before it can go that long because as you drive things will wear out. This is why it's so important if you're trying to keep your car for a long time that you take good care of it give it quality fluids and find a mechanic you can trust to help when basic things wear out over time. Good luck to you in your car buying indevor and you honestly can't do much better than a Toyota they make excellent cars

In my opinion, literally anything made by Toyota from the year 2000 and onwards is reliable. 😀

The 2gr-fe engine has a rattle on startup from the vvti on earlier models, I think it extends to some other engines they made as well

Very very good engine. I am a mechanic and have had both their VVTI and VVTI-L engine and both are very reliable, well made engines with relatively simple designs that make them easy to fix.

Do you have any experience with 1.33 1NR-FE engines? What problems can be expected?
