Just wanted to say sorry in advance this is a long post but I want to try to be as accurate as possible for our current situation. I know there is no one perfect answer but needing guidance or direction on the best way to go about this. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Currently own two cars. The first being a 2004 Suzuki xl7 pushing 400,000 miles. in fair condition but some issues. Never had major problems, bought from one owner private seller two years ago for $1300.
Runs okay but not sure about long distance. Use it to drive around in small town.

Second is a 2017 Subaru Impreza with about 17000 miles. Bought new from Subaru dealer still have 9,967 left to pay for the car. Not the car we wanted at the time but got pushed by dealer to buy because we had no car and no knowledge about anything so settled for what was put in front of us.

Now we have 3 kids,(3 car seats) So we are looking for a reliable 3rd row car but not sure whether to trade in for new or used, or sell and pay in full from a private seller?
this applies to any of the two I listed. Suzuki has 3rd row but not spacious or reliable enough. I’m just looking for something that i can trust but not going to break the bank either. I want to opt out of making payments every month but, if I needed to don’t mind paying extra dollar for newer or more reliable car. I just want Peace of mind when driving and less money spent overall in the long run such as cost of buying, payments, maintenance or repairs ect.
The only 3rd row Subaru has is the ascent and not sure if it’s even worth it. Should I look at a different brand? Different dealer? opt for used or trade and buy new? Want a 3rd row suv but willing to settle for a van if we have to.
So what do you recommend? What direction do we take, and what type of vehicle should we be looking at based on everything that was said? Thanks In advance!

Used as always the best way to go to get a deal but of course you are looking for one of the most popular things three row seating

It's very hard to find those used at a low price if you can find a Toyota or a Honda they are excellent though they Outlast just about everything out there

Have you considered a Toyota Sienna? Tough, spacious and relatively cheap because minivans are OUT OF STYLE - I guess because they make it look like you have kids. Like a 3 row SUV doesn't?

Cheaper to insure, too.

As I understand you don't like the Subaru you have. Why don't you trade it in when you find a suitable 3-row-seater? You'll get more money for it than for Suzuki. Perhaps you trade both in if you don't need 2 cars.

Sell your Subaru to a private party or dealer whoever pays reasonable money for it  do not trade in.

regarding the Suzuki, keep driving it as a second car since you get nothing for it  if you want to sell it.

Buy a Toyota Sienna is you want a van and Toyota Sequoia is you want a SUV.

Good luck.

I agree with Glen, if you don't need AWD the Toyota Sieanna mini van Mark's all the boxes.  Extremely comfortable for a family. When it comes to SUV's they are all so expensive these days. If it was me I would bite the bullet and still get a Toyota if I could swing it.
