Greetings,
Vehicle info:
220500miles
2005 Tacoma PreRunner Double Cab 2WD 4.0L V-6
Transmission A750E (5 Speed Automatic)
Issue: Truck is experiencing the shutter or “rumble strip” effect between 30 and 40 miles per hour. If I pay attention I can accelerate through the condition and it’s not so noticeable. I’ve had a local shop look into it and they state it’s an issue with the torque converter. A known issue. I was able temporarily relieve the condition by doing a transmission filter and fluid change. Lasted about 7k miles. Condition seems to be getting worse though and there is a concern I’m just compounding the issue by limping it along. Money is beyond tight at my household but may have some wiggle room.
My questions are:
1. Should I continue changing the transmission fluid every 4 to 6 months until failure?
2. Should I look into a lower mileage used transmission/torque converter or remanufactured transmission/torque converter?
3. Who would be a good go to facility to obtain parts. Related to questions 2. Also, who in the Houston or Texas can I trust to give me a good honest evaluation and possible work?
Appreciate any help or advice. Been researching issue on TacoWorld too.
All the Best,
Kevin S.
If your having torque converter issues, get a proper torque converter. You shouldn't need a whole new trans.
