About a year ago we bought our first secondary vehicle a 2010 Mazda 3, 130,000 Km for $8,000 Canadian Pesos. I started getting hard shifts, AT light and check engine light. Error code was a communication fault. My younger, but trust worthy mechanic checked and confirmed the TCM needs replaced, the one thing he said that may be a problem with that car.
Some online searching has some 'youtube' mechanics saying that instead of mounting the TCM directly ontop of the transmission, to tie it up to the firewall to keep it away from the transmissions heat.
Is this overkill or is this something I can ask my mechanic without looking like a dunce!
Thanks!
I enjoy the videos!

Your 'younger' know what he's talking about. The TCM is under the battery case but on top of the transmission. Relocating the TCM can help isolate it from heat and vibration.

Your mechanic will realize he's dealing with a knowledgeable customer.
