Hello, I just bought a 2008 ford focus with a standard transmission and 150k miles. The clutch is good, and it shifts fine but when I am sitting in neutral the transmission rumbles to the point where the car vibrates. As soon as I press the clutch in, it stops. It is also fine while driving. Is this something that I should look into? I just had it in the garage for inspection and they went over it and said everything was fine. Also, I hit a pothole on the highway and it popped the strut out of the steering knuckle. I just popped it back in. How can you tell if you have a bad strut/spring/shock?
Check motor your and transmission mounts. Engaging the clutch separates the engine from the transmission, so a broken or worn mount won't be under load. When the clutch is disengaged, the engine's spinning the input shaft of the tranny, which is a load, but it's not transmitting power through the intermediate and output shafts and moving the car because it's in neutral.
Check for codes?
no codes.
if you're in neutral then it can't be the transmission because it's dead still
