Hi there, i have a 2009 Chevy Malibu 3.6l with 196,000 miles. A day ago my check engine light came on and my scan tool read it as a P0700. I check online and everywhere i looks people said its a faulty Transmission Control Module or bad wires. Please help me. This is my only car.
The P0700 is a PCM code saying the transmission control module has an issue.
It can be triggered by anything from low battery voltage to a more serious issue in the transmission or a faulty TCM or a wiring problem between the PCM and TCM.
The 1st step is to make sure your battery and charging system are good.
The P0700 code is always accompanied by another code(s) which are stored in the TCM so you need to find somebody with a scanner which can communicate with the TCM to pull those TCM codes and identify the exact issue.
These days they have inexpensive scanners <$100 which can do that.
Start by checking the transmission fluid for proper level and see if it looks dirty.
I would go to a transmission shop. Have them scan it and give you their opinion. You've got nearly 200k on the thing, so brace for the worst.
