I am looking into a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 ST with 156,000 miles being sold for 4,000$.
I was informed that the steering gear needs replacing, the E brake pedal is broken, and fluids for brake, radiator, and differentials need replacing.
The tires are also worn.
I am looking for a truck that can last two years. Is this truck worth purchasing at that price and then fixing the issues listed above?
Other options I have seen are:
1999 Ford Ranger XLT (162,000 miles for 4,000$)
1989 Ford F-150 (112,000 miles for 3,500$)
1988 Ford F-250 (245,000 miles for 3,500$)
No.
No, those issues are just the tip of the iceberg.
Is this truck worth purchasing at that price and then fixing the issues listed above?
There’s a good chance that all the mentioned repairs (and who knows what else is hidden) will equal or exceed the purchase price of the vehicle.
Do you need a truck or just basic transportation?
