Hello,

My friend is looking for a used, reliable car/sedan/coupe that is fun to drive and maintenance/service is affordable. Looking at years between 2012-2020 within $10k-$15k. What would you recommend? Thank you.

Here is another idea: Mazda CX-3. I know, it’s an SUV, … rather small one!

Anyway, … its small and lot of folks get disappointed by a smallness - especially of a back seat - after purchase, … and sell it off early as a result!

But, … but, if you want a well handling car, fun to drive, … this little SUV is like a little sports car! Worthy of close look, …

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, she was difficult to help due to limiting factors. She ended up buying a Hyundai Sonata from Carmax 🤦‍♂️

Toyota, Honda, Mazda would be the prime makes to look at for that. Condition is everything though, make sure to have a good mechanic check out any vehicle before purchase.

Any models that stand out in those categories?

It really depends on what your friend wants. Maximum fun would probably be a Mazda Miata. The fun of a British sports car without the constant breakdowns and aggravation. Maximum practicality would be a Toyota Corolla. Boring but practical and reliable as an anvil. There's lots in-between to choose from.

Look at Toyota, Honda and Mazda, … skip others. If driving a Maytag will suffice, … look at Toyota. Hondas are more lively to drive, quite reliable, too. And Mazdas, … especially ones in middle level trims, are most engaging!

As I recall, ‘10 Mazda3 with 2.5 litre engine was a blast. I say, if you find a good Mazda3 just prior it going "Skyactiv". Also, Honda Civic with 2.0 litre engine… Si model, … but those are generally trashed quickly.

Also, if 2 door is acceptable, look for Acura RSX.Those are nice uppity Honda Civics built in Japan.

No offense, but Maytag isn't the great brand it once was.

Mazda 3 HB would be my recommendation.

Personally I like a 9th generation Honda Accord Coupe with a V6 or with H22 Engine. 2013-2017. You can get one for about $15k.
