Hello!
I'm looking to buy a new( new for me) car and looking at used and brand new options. Initially I wanted a RAV4 and was going to wait for 2024 version to be release, but it's too expensive for me.
in my opinion, I'm going to be very happy with a Forester,Touring, about $37k new, but also planning to wait for 2024 Forester to be released and will see how they prices compare.
Then I looked at a used 2019 Lexus RX with 36k, selling for $37k.
Any suggestions to help me lean one way or the other?
Whichever one I get, I plan to keep it in the family for as long as it runs.

Lexus is probably the more dependable one between the two (if you get the naturally aspirated one), but it is also a "luxury" brand. That translates to $$$. So if cost of upkeep is important to you, then you may want to research prices for common services and parts and compare them.
The Subaru might already come with options that you need (roof rack, etc.) that you may have to pay extra for on the Lexus.
But the Forester has CVT transmissions only, and those just aren't durable transmission. So maybe you can expect to have to pay 5 or 6k after 120k miles or something to replace that. Maybe they've gotten better. I don't have any statistics to lean on so do your research.
