Hey scotty just started watching your videos, love the content trust your judgment. i was looking to buy a car and saw a 2008 Maserati Quattroporte excutive GT with 53,600 miles for less than $20,000 is that a good car and price or should i stay away?
Thank you for the feedback guys definitely avoiding the brand, much appreciated
Run away.
Unless you plan on using it as a weekend toy that goes less than 5k miles a year and you have tens of thousands in the bank, don't even think about it.
I have repair bills for some of my customers on those that are upwards of $30k. Absolutely nothing is cheap on them and they fall apart quickly with age.
They are beautiful cars. But they are EXTREMELY expensive to maintain. Obviously I couldn't recommend one for any situation other than a very, very expensive toy. There is a difference between owning a Maserati, and "owning" a Maserati. I suggest looking for something else.
Most of those have the AMT - I hope you’re ready to pay some lucky transmission guy another $20k. 🙂
the only grandiose thing about the “Graziano” DuoSelect is the repair bills 😂🤣 ever been in a driver instructors car when the student seems drunk? That AMT drives… WORSE.
If you want a crappy built nightmare that doesn’t even drive well, let alone move under its own power half the time, you can buy a Fiat for cheaper than that.
if you want a trashy European sedan just get an Audi (just not the EA888 engines or DSG).
There are so many other much better built cars like older Volvo, almost all of the Lexus lineup, some Acura models,… They're less "pompous" but they're actually cars you can drive and reliably use.
More on that transmission:
There are kits they sell to install on buses to automate manuals - they drive awful with very choppy power flow, and yet it just beats this.
I mean even the worst transmission Toyota made for super economy cars - the MultiMode, known for being an unreliable mess drives 10 times better than this. And on that transmission when it shifts - that's probably how it feels to be puked out of a cat.
-
I found that Doug reviewed this car, and what he said about the transmission is 100% accurate.
"This is the worst transmission I've used in any automobile in history (...) I think you, making a transmission in your basement would probably come up with a better way to put power from the engine to the wheels than this one - and maybe a more reliable one too"

I would pass on it. You are going to inherit a money pit especially if you have to pay someone to do all the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs.
The only way to own these cars is with an OEM-backed warranty. Usually you lease these vehicles and return before the warranty expires.
A 2008 Maserati Quattroporte will macerate your wallet and quadruple your mechanic bill.
Not the best vehicle, and you will spend alot to maintain it. If you really want one, lease it and return it at the end of the lease
I would research online for maintenance costs and the cost of fixing common problems first.
The original owner dropped $124,000+or- and now it's worth $20,000 (maybe that's still too much?).
Hypothetically speaking, let's say the car is in great shape and was very well cared for.
After researching, can you financially support the car's maintenance and part's breakage costs?
I saw a couple of estimates of a couple thousand a year for general maintenance etc.
Run away, unless you have a lot of money you don't know what to do with and like spending time at the mechanic. They're endless money pits. $20k gives you great options for brand new good quality cars (if you want a trouble free car).
