Used vs New cars

If used car prices are spiking, then is it also a bad time to buy a new car because supply is low because of the chip shortage? Also, will used cars be as expensive as new cars?

MSRP has not gone up on new cars yet but due to supply vs. demand dealers are less willing to move on price. (Their attitude is if you don't buy it at their price then the guy behind you will.) Some dealers are outright gouging by adding "market adjustment" stickers jacking up the price.

Good deals can be had on new cars, but you have to look a bit harder as the shortage means a lot of dealers are inflating prices on what they have on the lot.

Now is a bad time to buy a used car. However, the prices of new cars are still normal. Car makers can’t jack their MSRPs up overnight based on increased used car prices. But, they will in the coming years because of inflation.

My brother just bought a Ram truck with the Cummins diesel. He got it for less than MSRP, but said that every other dealership was charging over MSRP.

Never buy a new car.  Let some other sucker take the depreciation.
