Based in Europe.
I've got a 2001 VW Passat 1.9 TDI 4x4 with over 400.000km.
Love the thing, works like a charm, never let me down, no significant rust.
I have to change tyres, get airconditioning fixed (leaks) and (trusty) mechanic says that I might eventually start to feel engine loosing power due to the turbo leaking a bit.
My mechanic gives honest prices, but i don't know if it's time to toss the old trusty and buy something new. I don't really want to if not necessary, i like to keep my stuff running even if they are old. I see people having car issues constantly, i just have regular maintenance and zero stress.
I've been driving Landcruisers with over 600.000km at work without a problem, if this one makes another 100.000 I'm happy with it.
Can you give any advice?
I'm not a Volkswagen fan, but those old diesels are pretty much indestructible. If you do have an honest mechanic, what the heck fix it and drive it some more
It depends on how much you're going to spend on the repairs and if you're willing to pay said amount for it.
You can still get 100.000 or more km out of it if maintained properly. But the car is 22 years old.
