Poor performance

My wife has a 2019 Honda Pilot with about 65,000 miles on it.  Recently it started throwing out a warning that is affecting the performance of the vehicle.  She took it to the dealer maintenance facility and they told her that the fuel injectors are dirty and need to be removed and cleaned to the tune of $1,000.  The mechanic told her that she was using a lower tier gasoline which caused the issue.  I don't have a fancy computer to verify, but I think it might be something else because the warnings don't always come on when she starts the car and sometimes the warnings do come on but the performance of the vehicle isn't affected.  The problem is most apparent when the fuel levels get low, and she does have a tendency to drive it with the fuel light on for a little while.  We tried using a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, but it didn't seem to have any affect.  I can't afford to shell out a grand for this.  Can you offer any advice?

Recently it started throwing out a warning that is affecting the performance of the vehicle.

What is the specific warning?

Stay away from the dealer for non-warranty work and take the vehicle to a good local mechanic (not a chain shop) for diagnosis.

ABS warning light, hill start assist, and emissions. As mentioned, the lights aren't always on, and sometimes when they do come on the performance isn't affected. It is the most pronounced when the fuel levels get low as the engine will act as if it wants to cut out at idle and at low speeds.

You need to scan for codes and live data.

failed fuel injectors after only 4 years?  Sounds like a scam.

Ask your friends about independent mechanics they trust.

You can also stop at an auto parts store for a scan and they'll tell you what the warnings mean.
