Hi, I don't know if you guys can hear it, but my mom's 2004 Volkswagen Polo, 1.2 HTP, 191 000 kilometres is struggling to keep steady RPM on idle.
The engine is chain-driven, but my mechanic told me the tensioner would have to be replaced (around 500 €). I don't want to put any more money into this old car. How long do you think it'll last before the tensioner breaks? Is it going to do any damage to the engine or could it still be driven?
Thanks.

You could start with air cleaner, spark plugs, and this older video from Scotty:
