[Solved] Weekend Toy Car

Hi scotty,

Hello from New Zealand

I am looking at a 2012 Lexus GS250 with 95000kms and a 2012 BMW 320D with 52000kms.

Both vehicles are in excellent shape, Grade 4 imports from Japan.

I am considering which one will be a good weekend toy.

Also, I had forums speaking about carbon buildup in Toyota 2.5 V6 engines as they came with Direct Injection only.

Thanks

Thanks a lot guys. I will stick with the Lexus and will make sure to have it checked out by my mechanic before purchasing it.
Cheers

Definitely get the Lexus.

I'm also a vote for the Lexus. It is going to be much more fun to drive than the BMW and more reliable as well.

I would go for the Lexus as well.  That engine is a 2.5L V6 (engine 4GR-FSE) which is direct-injection only and susceptible to carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves over time.  You’d have to install a catch can to mitigate the carbon buildup and also clean the back of the intake valves every 60,000-100,000 miles.  But, it should be more reliable than that BMW, and I’d rather deal with that issue over the overengineered (and bound to be money pit) BMW’s issues.

Get the Lexus, bu remember to have a mechanic check it out first.

Well, the Lexus is probably gonna be more fun since Diesel cars are not really about fun. Plus Lexus is gonna outlast the BMW. That said, I would look a the 350 models if you can find a nice one because of the 2.5 V6 engines, while they are pretty reliable, they don't have much power and get bad gas mileage. If you don't care about that stuff go ahead with the Lexus.

Alright,

I will stick with lexus. However, is the Toyota 2.5 V6 are known for carbon buildup? Some forums speak about them whilst others dont?
Thanks

Talk to Lexus/Toyota mechanics in your area, see what they have to say.. Find out how much Lexus parts cost in New Zealand.

Even if the engine has carbon build up, it is way better than that BMW with all plastic parts.

Weekend toy? Thye answer is always Miata (unless you can find a nice S2000 or MR2).
