- I have a 2014 Toyota Tacoma 6cyl 4wd. It’s a 6spd manual with 170k miles.
- I started noticed a weird knock/rattle type sound about a week ago.
- It only happens in low rpms (1k) and when in gear (including reverse) and when pressing the gas pedal.
- It happens with and without the a/c on.
- The sound comes from somewhere behind the glove box. I did change out the cabin air filter and accidentally left the door open, but got it back shut and I still hear it.
- I have no check engine light on and put it on a tester and have no codes.
- I recently changed the oil, filter, air filter, and cabin air filter - it started within 48 hours of that.
Thanks!

I'll bet it's something to do with your cabin air filters. Always start searching with what you did last.

Could just be coincidence with the timing of the oil change. Get underneath and check your suspension, struts, upper/lower ball joints, tie-rods, etc.... for any kind of looseness.
Ok. It sounds like a low rumble - it’s so odd though - I can make it happen all day long in 4th gear at 25 mph. I checked the strut and suspension but haven’t looked at the ball joint or tie rod yet
Re-trace all the things you worked on before hand. If it is from something you worked on, might find the source of the noise.
