What are your thoughts on 98 wrangler 108k

I’m looking at a 98 wrangler with 108k on a inline6 with automatic trans owner asking 6k

he claims only in the winter when it’s cold the transmission will be in limp mode for two or three miles til it warms up.

somethings I’ve read suggest could be due to a bad factory t-splice getting water and corrosion. I have some experience with Jeep’s and this does ring true on my new grand Cherokee that needed the wire from the relay box to the starter solenoid replaced.

what do you think? Is the splice the likely culprit? Should I take a chance or keep looking?

I would just keep looking if it were me.

It would seem to be cold a lot in February - have you seen it switch out of limp mode?

Are you a gambling count? If so, roll the dice. If not, I'd keep looking - pre-owned doesn't mean it has to be pre-broken.

I haven’t looked at it yet, I was able to get that info in a conversation. “My tranny guy looked at it says it’s normal” that was a red flag to me. Having dealt with poor factory wiring on other Jeep’s, it seems on brand.... just curious if anyone else has seen this issue and can lend credence to the idea that a poor corroded splice would be the most likely culprit. 108k on the 4.0 motor is nothing, I’m not looking for a trans swap job tho.
