I have a 1987 Jeep YJ with a 3-speed automatic transmission and a steering column shifter. It takes a lot of torque to shift it out of the park position but glides easily after that. It seems abnormal. Any thoughts on why it takes so much pressure to shift it?
Mileage?

Because it's so freaking old and everything's worn you might spray WD-40 on the linkage and make sure that the cable wasn't on it might need a new cable
