It doesnt have to be brand new, but if it is brand new i can get 18% off. I dont really care about high hp, but i do care about mpgs and it being comfortable on long highways. I live in Europe and i will start studying in Germany in spring, so ill use the car inside the city for stuff i cant walk to as well as to travel from Germany to my home country thats like a 12h drive. Im not really a car guy so i dont know much abt the reliability or history or anything for that matter. My budget is around 20k (after the 18% if its a brand new car) and id like for the car to be small, like a hatchback or sum not too long. Any suggestions and thx in advance.

Euros? German pricing? That doesn't buy you anything worth having.

but if you can add 2k, you can actually buy a great new car that can last you 10-15 years.

Your best option is to spend a bit more and get the new Yaris Hybrid (auto, base-model in the base color).

As you described it, for your needs it is undoubtedly the best - it's a wonderful car for Europe.

It's a small cheap car that gets 60 mpg, has perfect safety scores, and drives it self on the highway.

I think the adaptive cruise control and self lane tracing will make your life so much easier.

(Verify before purchase that it is equipped ACC and LTA, according to online info- all of them are)

I looked at other options in Europe and I couldn't find anything less expensive with good basic amenities.

Yeah euros, and i can work my way around an extra 2k and i dont really know what acc and lta are but ill check em out rn. Thanks a lot for the answer bro appreciate it!

ACC is "Adaptive Cruise Control" and LTA is "Lane Trace Assist" I have it on my car and IMO it's a life changer.
I found a video on how it works on the Yaris Hybrid online both in a traffic jam and on the highway.
https://youtu.be/kX0Mel4wBs8?t=60
(The person in the video doesn't use it correctly, he ignores the warning to "hold steering wheel" so it disengages - if you hold the wheel and let it move, it doesn't disengage and handles traffic jams and highway driving by it self)
According to German brochures it should be standard on every Yaris Hybrid, so it's definitely worth checking that the car you're buying is equipped with these features.

Corolla Hatchback SE, with the manual transmission.

He's in Europe, the new Corolla there is only hybrid and it starts at around 28 grand.
And by the time you add things that are must-haves for long highway trips it's over 30.
