What do you think of cryogenic tempering services?

Dear Scotty:

300 Degrees Below, Inc., in Illinois freezes engine blocks and components to 300 below zero to make metal stronger and tighten tolerances.  Have you heard of them and if so, what do you think of them?  Thank you.

Where's the independent scientific evidence to support their claim that freezing engines make them stronger? Besides, if an engine isn't well-designed, or well-maintained, it doesn't matter, IMHO, if they cryogenic temper it in outer space.

Without verifiable and replicable evidence, it's just a claim. It seems like a frozen version of "a wallet flush."

cryogenic treatment of steel is a real thing. However, the claims you mention are weapon grade balonium.

Properly made engine blocks don't normally break, so why would you even need to strengthen it. The tolerances thing is simply BS. If anything, freezing metal will shrink it.
And how much does this service cost? ... I'm guessing more than the engine is worth.

You use machining to get tolerances. This has to be done at a certain temperature at about 20°C.

I think if you have money to blow on a process that probably offers little to no benefit on a modern engine that sure, it's a good way to waste your cash.
