Yesterday I just heard a noise of something breaking. Inspected and couldn’t find until I get home and hung up the car.
it was replaced a year ago, drove about 35k miles only. Brand is FCS.... Scotty told me not to buy it, but my mechanic said “Scotty is exaggerating “... he was wrong.

@tiagoshade
thanks for sharing your experience!
this is what this Site is all about so members can make informed decisions about aftermarket parts.
Yeah... saved 100 bucks and now I’ll spend a lot more
@tiagoshade
so the nut came off?
You said it was a "kit"...meaning that your spring was swapped onto a new hydraulic part. The picture looks like the nut came off the hydraulic part.
If so...I'd say the nut was over-torqued with an impact tool, partially stripping the threads, and then later failed. No fault of the new "kit"...fault of whoever assembled the "kit".
I come across a lot of stripped threads on equipment and vehicle from mis-use of impact tools and also from SAE and metric fasteners being mismatched. The scariest ones are tie rod ends and wheel nuts.
Well, it's time for new struts and perhaps for a new mechanic. What are you driving habits? Do you baby your car or beat heck out of it?
Good luck.
@g-t
Low quality part. I drove 170k miles on the manufacture strut, changed it a year ago, drove about 30k miles and it’s damaged.
ALWAYS use a reputable brand for things as important as shocks and struts.
Stick to the big name brands, even cheap ones like Monroe at least have lifetime warranties usually.

My mechanic at the time said “buy it”
The kit was from FCS and I bought it at rock auto.
The broken part looks like it had a stress fracture. That could mean a nut tightened tooo damned tight or the part installed crooked. Whatever happened it means you must repair "again". Good luck.
