What is the risk of adding oil to gasoline intended for a turbo-charged engine? I accidentally put 5 litres of fuel into my 2015 Subaru WRX that had a 1:50 mixture of 2 stroke oil (so 100 mls of oil in total). I hadn’t properly labelled my jerry cans. The Subaru tank contains about 60 litres I believe. Can this small amount of oil do any damage or will it just be harmlessly burned off? Should I siphon out the tank???
The primary risk would be damaging your catalytic converter. However, many, if not most, 10 year old cars burn more than 100 milliliters of oil between oil changes without emissions systems problems, so the risk is pretty small.
If it helps you sleep better at night, drain the oil and replace it with fresh. Catalytic converters are damn expensive, a tank of gas isn't.
@glen_stet Good point! I never considered the catalytic converter.
