Scotty,
I am a retired engineer and would appreciate your advise. What reliable luxury SUV would you recommend that would be reliable? I am considering going electric but holding off until the the batteries go solid state. I am not interested in leasing and plan on keeping the car long term. Looking for something like the upcoming Macan E, Mercedes EQE SUV or the Lucid SUV that is in the works.
I would suggest you look into Lexus suv options if you want luxury but also reliable. There was a recent video from Scotty on a hybrid Mercedes which the battery went out at 45k miles and they had quoted over $20k ish for replacing it.
Thank you for this answer. My wife really dislikes the front grill on the Lexus but we may have to live with it. I know they are planning on offering an all electric model soon so will explore this more. Again, thank you!
I think she would probably get used to the front grill after a while and not even really notice it, but instead you get long term reliability. Also, look into Lexus hybrid suv options; they're from Toyota and they know how to make good quality hybrid.
Forget any of the upcoming EVs - no point in being a Guinea pig. As for buying a luxury SUV for long term, go with Lexus. Not sure what size you are looking for but the RX, GX, and LX are all good choices.
Thank you!
I would consider Land Cruiser as well.
I totally agree with you; the Land Cruiser is great if they can find someone willing to sell theirs.
I agree with your wife. The Lexus' grill looks like front of an old, steam locomotive cow catcher from the late 1800s. Nice car, except for the obnoxious, oversized grill.
The newer Lexus grills are the worst. The grill on my wife's 2017 RX350 is not as outlandish as the newer ones. At least in my opinion.
If folks can manufacture body kits to make Fieros look like Ferraris, couldn't somebody manufacture kits to fix the Lexus and BMW's ugly grills?
Great point.
