When to replace timing belt on a diesel car?

I live in Europe and own a diesel volkswagen golf 2017 tdi. I see many different forums saying the timing belt should be replaced every 4 years or 5 years, some saying 8 years, some saying 10.

My car is 3 years old and has 40k miles on it, do I need to replace the belt anytime soon?

Usually you have that info in owner's manual. Normally it is changed every 100k miles or km if you have interference engine.

By getting into the habit of visually inspecting the belt when doing servicing you can see deterioration and know when replacement is needed.  Waiting for 100K when belt wears out at 80K might not be good.  When dealerships promise visual inspections it is for more than just extra money.  Sometimes they find problems early.
