Scotty, my 15 year old Jetta TDI died on me and is going to cost 7100 to fix. I’m junking it and taking your advice and getting a Camry. I’m fortunate enough to have to funds to buy a new year in this market; however, I drive 100 miles a day going to and from work. Should go stick with the 4 cylinder Camry or go with the hybrid? Thanks!
I'd stick with the 4-cylinder for best longevity. Another issue is would you even save enough on gas with the hybrid to make the extra cost worthwhile? The 100 mile round trip commute suggests mostly highway driving and hybrids do their best in stop-and-go traffic.
The regular 4 cylinder Camry should last longer. Mine gets 40mpg on the highway if I keep it below 80 miles per hour, 30mpg in town if I drive like an old lady. Not sure if the better gas mileage on the hybrid would make up for the extra money you’d end up paying for it
A regular 4 cylinder Camry should be perfectly fine for your commutes. A hybrid Camry can be pretty good on the gas until they get to a certain mileage (100-150k miles), when the hybrid components start to break, they can turn into money pits.
