Hello Forum.
Want to thank you in advance for your help regards this question.
A little bit about myself, I'm in the need of buying a car, I've been watching lots of Scottys videos as well as reading some post here regards best used cars to buy. I want a mid size sedan and after watching many videos it comes down to 2 options, either a Camry or a Accord, Im okay with the Camry I like it, the Accord not so much I would like to take it off the list and add 2 possible options which I would like to know your opinion, Mazda 6 and VW Passat....
Now... I know Passats are cars that don't last long and are expensive at repairs but here is the scenario. Im currently living at Mexico, Puebla, (here's the VW plant that manufactures Jettas, Golfs, Tiguans etc...), the reason why im taking into consideration this car (Passat) is because Scotty mentioned that sometimes some brands might be better options depening on how easy is to find replacements, how popular the brand is in general, here in mexico there are lots of VW cars, and the repair cost are cheap for these because theres lots of mecanics that know this cars well enough and charge cheap to fix them, knowing this will you still advice to go for the Passat? I was thinking about a 2018 model, the latest of a generation the better.
I know there's nothing to say regards the Camry or Mazda 6, those car can last for ever.
I appreciate your help thank you.
I would not go for the VW. Of the cars you listed, for reliability and low cost of ownership, go with the Camry.
Those Passats are still not well made, and it’s a good idea to get a vehicle with the least propensity for issues during ownership. As long as the Camry is on your short list, just go with that.
Get the Camry. Even if the repair cost of VW is cheap there, but their quality is not there and you may end up more being in a repair shop than on the road.
