Which one a cheap Jetta or an average Corolla

Hello Scotty this is Emir from Madison,

I am looking to buy a car and I have two options in my mind. One is a Toyota Corolla LE 2010 96000 miles and the other is VW Jetta 2008 with 150000 miles.

Corolla is priced around 7000 and Jetta is priced around 3000$. What would you do? Would it be worth paying 4000$ more to buy a Corolla?

Thanks,

Yes.

Corolla, it's not even a question.

The only decent Jetta I have seen was owned by a friend of mine. It had a diesel, a tdi I think, and he has some crazy amount of miles, like 450k or so and got like 45 mpg.

He had very little issues with it, but he did have a computer issue that he somehow managed to macgyver it to work, because it was massive amount to fix at mechanic.

Do they still use timing belts in the jettas? A coworker had one and was over the change mileage, I warned her to get it replaced but she pushed it until it snapped. $1900 later and the engine would crank again.

I would stick with a corolla.

Definitely the Corolla. Seems like an okay deal, but if you can negotiate with the seller, you can bring down the price a little.

The Corolla would be the better (and wiser) choice over the Jetta, and also reflects on the resale value (I.e. why it costs more).
