Hey Scotty,

Today my 4Runner died after about 30-50 minutes of me being inside of the car with the radio on. I turned the radio off because I was having a conversation and I attempted to turn on the car. When I went to turn it on the dash lit up but it didn’t turn on. I jump started it with my  batter jump starter and it worked. When I started to drive, I noticed a whine, that I’m very sure was not there before. So I pull over and took a look at my car. It still made that sound after I powered it off, turned it back on and had it in park. So then I kept driving, and eventually it stopped.

extra details:
I had to jumpstart it like this about 4 weeks ago. But I didn’t notice this whine.
About a year ago we changed the alternator but kept the same battery.

my battery light has not came on.

the sound seemed to get higher on pitch the more rpms

Question:

should I be concerned even though it stopped whining?

Put a long bar on the alternator and listen to see if the bearing is going out.
