My leased Honda Civic Coupe LX has 12,000 miles. In July I noticed a slight tone coming from it and wondered what the hell it was. It grew louder since then and it drives me nuts. I have not driven far because I keep thinking it must be something and might break down! I have brought it back to Honda 3 x -- they've scanned it, driven with me but they insist its just the tire noise so they rotated the tires-- which made the ride slightly bumpy and the engine sounds noisier too. I finally got in after 3 weeks to see a local mechanic who does alignments for his opinion. He drove it and said he could slightly hear it so( I did not ask him to put it on the lift regrettably) not to worry so I drove it out of state to visit my son and yes the noise is worse. I'm just wondering if anyone else notices this and what can I do to lessen the noise if anything?
Some tires get noisy as they accumulate mileage. I haven't driven a late model Civic but I know older ones didn't have much in the way of noise insulation. As already mentioned, a video that demonstrates the noise would be helpful.
Can you post a video of the noise?
Okay I'll get around to that thanks!
@chucktobias Yeah I was thinking poor insulation as well, but it sounds like it is getting worse really quick. Wheel bearing comes to mind, but it doesn't fit the symptoms when rotating the tires, that shouldn't matter.
Is the noise coming from a particular tire?
Perhaps a noise locator device might be helpful for this one.
Noises can be tough since they can telegraph all over a car. One of those gadgets that Scotty uses might help pinpoint it, though I'm not sure how you'd use it to find tire noise. (I guess attach the microphones as close to the tires as possible.)
@chucktobias yeah I was thinking more in general to help find it, not necessarily tires. Like you said, it can be tricky.
