Got a friend who’s about to get his first car. His parents only take their car to Midas. I know why not to take my car to a chain auto repair shop, but I need help explaining it someone who knows just about nothing about cars. Maybe Scotty has a video on this but I couldn’t find it. I know various clips here and there exist so possibly if not a brand new video, this could be a compilation video idea. Anyway help me explain to him why he shouldn’t also take his car to Midas because he believes they have done good work with his parents’ cars.

He has talked about it in his videos. You probably can't find it because he uses click bait titles. We have also discussed it in topics with similar experience. Use search to find them.

Scotty shares another experience when a guy paid $9000 for nothing https://youtu.be/bHtcQizQWGo?t=255
@g-t thanks. I tried to do a search but couldn't find it. I've seen too many of us here get chewed out for not searching first so I always try

If you know, then you should have no problem explaining it.

It's got nothing to do with cars and everything to do with company structure.
If you are a prep cook at MacDonald's, do you care if the business does well? Do you care if a customer comes back or not? Are you passionate about the food you make, and put it in extra effort to make sure the customer gets a good meal? Will MacDonalds try to get to know you personally, and will they be concerned with your home and well being and compensate you accordingly?
Now imagine you own a small cafe. You cook, maybe you have a helper and a server. Your family's survival depends on this business. Are you going to make sure the cafe is clean, and the food leaving the kitchen is made properly? Will you be concerned that your customers are satisfied? Will you teach your staff everything you know, and give them a decent wage, so they can do the job as best they can and won't leave. Will you let them go if they under-perform?
I think this is something everybody knows and understands.
Maybe your friend's parents know the people at the Midas and trust them.
he believes they have done good work with his parents’ cars.
Maybe they did. Who is to say they didn't?
At the end of the day, your car is yours and his is his.
I feel that at chain repair shops like that there is a higher employee turnover and not many experienced and seasoned mechanics work there. But don't argue too much with your friend since it's not worth losing friendship because of this 🙂
