I have a 1979 chevy k10 and the front main seal on the transmission is barely leaking, like a drop once a week. Will at205 reseal work?

From past experience any pour in sealer isn’t worth it they can cause more harm than good but again that’s only my experience. If it’s a drop or two a week then maybe it could help.  If it were me I’d leave it alone as it is for that slow of a leak

You would be better off learning how to take the transmission off the truck and just replacing that seal yourself than trying to reseal it. Then you can inspect the rest of the external seals as well. My 1979 Pontiac Catalina has a leak at the input shaft seal also, and I considered trying AT-205, but I'm going to just replace the seal when I get a garage in a few months. Those old GM cars and trucks are very easy to drop the transmission out of compared to anything modern. There are no fancy electronics hookups, etc. to deal with. You'll have cooler lines, a speedometer cable, kickdown cable and gear selector, then the drive shaft needs pulled, the torque converter separated from the motor, unbolt from the mounts and lower it slowly with a jack. Take the torque converter out of the bell housing, and it's all there. A friend of mine was an auto tech back in the 80s and he pulled and reinstalled transmissions in those old cars in a few hours at 14 years old. He, Doc and Chuck Tobias gave me the motivation to figure it out on my own.

He said Front main seal, not rear.

Justin Shepherd has it exactly right. Thanks for the mention.

Please do not double post. @InThrustWeTrust @MountainManJoe https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/will-at205-reseal-fix-a-leak-on-my-transmission-2/

sorry, i didn't mean to. when i posted the question i noticed it was posted twice for some reason

That's ok it happens. I just let the moderators know so they can merge them together and keep the forum clean. Plus if there were answers on your other post they would be moved here so you wouldn't miss them. 🙂

It is meant to be used as a bandaid and not to actually repair the leak.

I would recommend a permanent fix and being done with it.

Its 13$ a bottle so it's worth a shot now if you said its leaking like crazy no it won't stop a bad leak but a small leak like that it's worth trying.

Thats a small leak! If your driving the truck 2-300 miles a week thats one thing, but if its a casual use vehicle I would try the AT205 reseal.
