Windshield replacement

My front windshield is cracked on 2017 Toyota RAV4 LE. I do not have comprehensive insurance to cover glass, since it's "middle aged" with a lot of miles on it.

I checked for the part number on Toyota Parts website and it appears to be multiple options for windshield on the same VIN. Local Houston dealership wants ~$2,000 for OEM replacement, install, callibration but doesn't even do it on themselves and uses an unnamed third-party company. They also refuse to give me the right part number based on VIN. Kind of shady.

I called a lot of independent shops and they seem to be pushing to do aftermarket with Fuyao or Pittsburgh Glass, which appears to be Chinese-made glass and assembled in the US.

I’m concerned about calibration & safety later on being a problem with aftermarket - but I'm not sure if it's a dealer scare tactic when I asked them about aftermarket.

What should I do? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Your only choices really are to pony up for the OEM glass or take a chance on aftermarket glass. You could ask the independent glass shops how much they would want to do the job with OEM glass, it may be less than what the dealer charges.
