[Solved] Wiring Rear Foglights - Relay Location

Hi folks,

I bought my first JDM car - a Toyota Celsior 1997 with 30,000 miles on it. I need to wire up some rear foglights for it to be roadworthy and pass the MOT (inspection) here in the UK. I'm running 10 AWG from the positive to a fuse, to the switch on the dash, then to a relay at the back of the car, then fused again before the rear light.

Apparently I can run a second light if I want from the first light positive terminal. And then negative from both to the chassis (if I'm a cheapskate) or back to the negative battery terminal to be Richie Rich.

Some people say the relay is better by the battery though? And not by the light. Can I fit two?. I'm not sure if I want to be a smart ass and mess about with the rear brake lights by making one or two a foglight. Although that's how the UK Lexus LS400s go.

I'm a carpenter by trade, so sparky electrical stuff is beyond me. And thanks again Scotty for getting me onto Toyota - this car is a tank.

You don't want to run the high amp load from the battery to the fog lights through the switch. It defeats the point of using a relay

Maybe consider this setup. Buy a weatherproof relay/housing.

Mount the relay as close to the battery as you can.

Control the relay from the Ground side of the relay's control coil.

You won't have any problems finding existing ground points under the dash for the switch.

Also, it isn't being a cheapskate not to run the Ground wire from the fog lights back to the battery Ground post. It's smart.

For your fog lights' Grounds, find the existing body ground points that the taillights are using and use them.

Thanks @jack62!

Really appreciate that reply @Jack62 Thank you. I got a drawing and everything. Which is exactly what I needed.
