I changed the air filter in my 2002 Pontiac montana and now it won't turn over. All fuses and starter relay is good. I disconnected the maf but I reconnected it. When I reconnected the maf is it possible there was a power surge that made the ignition switch go bad. When I turn the ignition to on the dash lights come on but when I turn key to start there is nothing not even a sound. When I leave the ignition on and all the dash lights are on I short out the starter and it turns over but won't start. I tried relearn on the security system but that didn't work either. Anyone have any more ideas.

When you worked on the MAF sensor, did you disconnect the battery?

Based the the symptoms, the ignition switch might be faulty. Try using starter fluid and see if you can run the car. If so, the fuel pump might be bad or the fuel filter is clogged.

No I didn't disconnect the battery when when I unplugged the MAF or when I plugged it back in. Is that wire live with the ignition switch off and if it is live wire could it have touched some steel and shorted out the ignition switch.

Generally, it should not have power when the ignition switch is off but it is a good practice to disconnect the battery when working on the electronics.

Move the gear shift around and tap on the brake pedal a few times.  Try starting in neutral too.

Yes I tried moving the gear shift around and putting it in neutral and that didn't work. I will try tapping on the brake pedal. All I did was change the air filter and now won't turn over. So strange.

That's maddening. Try unplugging the MAF sensor and see if it will start.

Yes I tried that and it didn't start.
