Worth rebuilding the engine or just sell it?? 01 ford f150

We have an '01 Ford F-150 Sport V6 with 290,000 miles on it.  We've been having some issues with it throwing out codes for cylinder 4,5,6 misfires. One of the catalytic converters is falling apart and pieces are going into the muffler. The other day it started making this flapping/ whirring noise that would stop when the clutch is depressed. The truck would also die if you stopped giving it gas. Someone told me that the noise is my engine knocking / the rods??  I'm including a couple videos. What do yall think the issue might be?? We have someone about to buy the truck for $800. Should we go through with the sale or is it worth fixing??? Thanks.

The guy decided not to buy it. So now the next step is to figure out what the next step would be. Any ideas on troubleshooting to determine whether or not the engine is going out?? I'm just at a complete loss and any guidance would very much be appreciated.

Well if you really like it I would say get a factory engine for it get a long block engine and install it if you really like the truck cuz they don't make them like they used to

Sounds like it's got several thing going wrong for it. All times I've ever had a whirring noise that goes away when clutch is pressed has been a bad throw out bearing. You've got misfires on half of your engine. You mentioned knocking, so 20 years old with nearly 300k miles probably is rod knocking, no wonder it dies if you don't give it gas. You were going to sell it for $800. It's going to cost more than that to replace or rebuild your motor, so only you can decide if that's the road you want to go down.

If you have a failing cat it can be clogged and cause alot of what you are describing. Since its dead anyway remove it and short term see if misfires go away and if engine runs better, don’t run it to long without the cat though. Back pressure buildup can cause all sorts or noises, pinging, no power, bogged down.

how far are you from Virginia? I need an 800 buck truck. 🤣
