I've got a 2014 RAM 1500 with this transmission. I've seen instructions on changing the transmission fluid where the transmission temperature has to be a certain temp to change. Can I just follow your advice and drain it cold, measure what came out, and put that much back in?

You can do it cold, but I would turn the car on for about a few minutes just to get the fluid up to temperature. But the refill process requires knowing the temperature. You need to refill the transmission with fluid until it starts to dribble out of the fill hole. Then turn on the car and let the transmission warm up to about 30-40 degrees C while going through the gears with the car stationary. Then when it gets up to temperature, re-open the fill plug and re-fill again until fluid starts dribbling out again. Then you're done and the transmission is filled to the proper fluid level.
